As the CEO of a rapidly growing tech company, hundreds of people have reached out to me, excited about what they’ve been thinking through. They all say the same thing “I have a great idea.” After dreaming of and building a no-code employee engagement platform, getting it off the ground, and scaling it to thousands of customers, I have a few very simple pieces of advice.

Everyone has heard this advice and everyone already knows it. The hardest thing in the world is to simply start. There are a few cliché sayings that genuinely resonate with me:

1. The hardest part by far is simply starting

Everyone has a brilliant idea, but what sets 99.9% of people apart from those who can conceptualize and those who do is simply doing. The hardest part of building a house is laying down the first brick. The hardest part of working out is just going to the gym.

2. If it were easy, everyone would do it

You have to be a little crazy to do a startup. There is no stability, and dozens of unknowns will occur getting the company off the ground, and success will not come without struggle along the way, one way or another.

3. There are no overnight successes

Truth be told, almost all of the overnight success stories you hear are the dramatized and glamorous versions of the truth. The absolute truth is the founders may have been working long days for years, ideating and iterating versions of their product until they found product market fit. So when you hear about these successes and how they’ve started scaling hundreds of percentages per year … impressive it may be, but that success did not happen overnight.

If you want to build a platform, a better process, a new product, a b2b SaaS software, etc., take the first step. The worst thing that can happen is that you fail, but at least you tried, and most people will not even attempt that. So if you can get over the terrifying possibility of failure (which is frightening), you’re already more accomplished than most.

Push harder and make a change. You may find that you may, in fact, succeed.
